The Seabrook EDC received positive feedback from a feasibility study regarding restoration of an island located off the southeastern shoreline of the City. The land would help protect the shoreline, sustain marsh development and enhance natural wildlife. It would replace the former area known as Pirate’s Island or Goat’s Island, which was lost to subsidence and erosion.
There is broad support to pursue Habitat Island design alternative 4 and Galveston Bay Foundation has agreed to undertake project. As a result, Seabrook EDC and City Council accepted the study findings and approved a resolution of support for Galveston Bay Foundation to proceed with the Habitat Island Project. The next step is fundraising and GBF anticipates this will take about 2-3 years.
